Today I’d like to welcome author Parker Kincade to Caribbean Accent Book Reviews (CABR). She’s here to tell us about her debut novel, “One Night Stand“, Book 1 in The Martin Family saga.

A GIVEAWAY is included in this interview (you know I love a giveaway 😀 so be sure to POST A COMMENT then enter the RAFFLECOPTER here >>> a Rafflecopter giveaway <<< for a chance to WIN an eBook copy of “One Night Stand“)

CABR: Parker, I must say “One Night Stand” (ONS) grabbed me with its fantastic plot –

“When a night of incredible sex turns into a passion neither can deny.

Amanda Martin has the worst taste in men. After being cheated on not once, but twice, she’s lost all faith in men … and in herself. Determined to regain her confidence, Amanda decides to have a one-night stand. No relationship, no promises, no threat of being hurt again … just sex. What she doesn’t anticipate is meeting a handsome-as-sin stranger who will give her pleasure unlike any she’s ever known.

Joe Sterling has spent his life avoiding relationships, his former job as a military sniper not allowing for such commitments. Now he’s come home to Texas, to let go of the past and to prove he is more than the killer he’s been trained to be.

When Amanda’s life is threatened, Joe’s killer instinct is tested while Amanda struggles to protect her heart. Will they succumb to their overwhelming desire for each other, or lose it all by letting the past dictate their future?”

CABR: Reading that synopsis had me saying “Oh yeah.” How’d you come up with the storyline? 🙂

PK: I always stumble when someone asks me how I come up with my storylines. It’s not a “cut and dried” process for me. Generally, ideas formulate from a question. One Night Stand was no different. I’d asked myself what would happen if a woman decided to give up on love and have a one-night stand. One thing led to another and voila! Amanda and Joe! 😀

CABR: I know ONS has won at least two awards and hit the bestseller list on All Romance eBooks (ARE) within two weeks of its publication. Congrats! How’s it feel to know your debut novel has been so well received?

PK: Thank you so much! It feels amazing, truly. I am thrilled with the recognition this story has received from Passionate Ink and the Celtic Hearts Romance Writers. I am so grateful to the readers, reviewers and e-book sellers for supporting this story. I love the Martin Family, and I am excited that others do as well. It means I get to continue to share their stories with you!

CABR: Did you struggle while writing any part of/scene in ONS or was it a fun ride?

PK: LOL! I struggled with the whole damn thing! Joe and Amanda were not always as cooperative as I would have liked. “One Night Stand” is not only the first novel I’ve published, it was the first one I actually completed. It was a real learning process. A labor of love, this one, but love it was – every second.

CABR: Wow! That’s very cool Parker. So what’s next for you (a) in books and (b) life?

PK: (a) I have a lot going on right now. I’m finishing up a manuscript I am really excited about. Then, of course, I am working on book two in the Martin Family series. Stay tuned for details!

(b) I am the happiest I have ever been. I am doing what I’ve always dreamed of doing, and I’ve met some amazing people along the way. Next in my life is, hopefully, more of the same.

CABR: How has life changed since you officially became a published author?

PK: Other than my kids thinking I’m the coolest person on the planet, my life is pretty much the same, only much busier!

Honestly, the biggest change is the amount of time I devote to actual writing. When I wrote “One Night Stand“, it was a piece here, a piece there, for a year. Now, I dedicate time every day to write.

TRIVIA

CABR: Which character from fiction, yours or another author’s, would you like to spend time with and why?

PK: Hmm. It changes on a daily basis, depending on my mood. Today, I’m going with Vane Kattalakis from Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Night Play. I mean, come on. Six foot, five inches of sex-on-a-stick, motorcycle ridin’, badass, were-shifter? You do the math! The reasons why are completely naked, um, I mean obvious. He could teach me to ride his…motorcycle. Yeah, that’s it. LOL!

CABR: LOL. If you could be someone else for a day, from any time in history, who would you be and why?

PK: As strange as this will sound – Jane Goodall. Having worked with chimpanzees myself, I have a deep appreciation for her work and her dedication to affect change for these amazing creatures. To live and work with chimpanzees in the wild would be, for an anthropologist such as myself, an amazing experience.

Today it’s my pleasure to welcome debut Mills&Boon Modern author and F1 fanatic, Maya Blake, to CABR. 😀

She’s here to talk about her first book for M&B, “The Price of Success” (TPOS) which was released by Mills&Boon Modern on December 1, 2012.

GIVEAWAY – (1) Post a comment (2) Enter the Rafflecopter >> a Rafflecopter giveaway <<
to be eligible to WIN an eBook copy of “The Price of Success“.

On to the interview…

CABR: “The Price of Success” (TPOS) is your debut novel for M&B Modern right? Tell us how you came to write race car driver Sasha Fleming and her boss at Espiritu racing team, Marco de Cervantes? Are you a fan of stock car racing and/or F1?

MB: Yes, TPOS is my first M&B Modern – still can’t believe it! I don’t know a lot about other forms of racing, but I do know A LOT about F1! It started back in the late ’90s when I lived with two older brothers who are absolute F1 fanatics.

At first the soporific sound of the cars going round and round was a great aid to a Sunday afternoon nap, lol. Then I slowly began to take an interest. The more I watched, the more I loved it – it had glitz, glamour and hot men in tight race suits – what’s not to love? But then I also noticed that ALL of the drivers were male. That didn’t sit right with me, so last year I decided to write about a female race driver who conquers a male-dominated sport!

CABR: Knowing Sasha Fleming was an actual F1 driver and not the usual ‘chick on the sidelines’ was one of the things that peaked my interest in TPOS. 🙂

Can you give us a sneak peek at the cover for your next book – “The Sinful Art of Revenge“? I know it’s due out from Harlequin Presents in March 2013. That’ll be a cool birthday present to myself 🙂

MB: Unfortunately, I won’t have the cover for another couple of months but I can summarise the story for you. It’s a reunion story between staid French Baron and billionaire art gallery owner, Damion Fortier, and live-life-on-the-edge Reiko Kagawa, a half-Japanese art retriever he seduced and betrayed five years before the story starts.

Damion needs Reiko to find three missing paintings of his late grandmother before his grandfather passes away. They have serious issues to work through because once Damion realises how much he hurt her, he tries to make amends but Reiko can’t accept him back because she afraid of being hurt again. She also has newer, more heart-breaking issues of her own which she feels she can’t get over. Are you intrigued yet?

CABR: Intrigued? I’d say hooked! Looking forward to getting my hands on “The Sinful Art of Revenge” even more now. Tell us about your journey from aspiring to published author.

MB: Although I’ve been published with other houses before I received the famous Call from Harlequin, the ambition to write for Mills and Boon Modern was what burned brightest.

My journey involved a lot of hits and misses, starting in early 2006 when I sent off my first partial. I received a few rejections along the way until they transformed from form rejections to rejections with notes and then requests for full manuscripts. My second try with a full revised manuscript was with “The Price of Success“, which luckily sold in April of this year.

CABR: A lesson in never giving up on your dream. 😀 How has your life changed since then?

MB: I’ve met some lovely and supportive people who have given me great advice about the publishing industry, which is basically – don’t sweat the small stuff. It’s also truly mind-boggling to know people are reading my book and liking it. I’ve had some awesome reviews this past week that’s humbling but incredibly thrilling. Other than that, I’m having to manage my time a bit more efficiently because deadlines are real, y’all!

TRIVIA

CABR: Which character from fiction, yours or another author’s, would you like to spend time with and why?

MB: Definitely Sasha (although I love Marco to bits, too!). Sasha is truly kick-ass and came up with some hilarious one-liners that had me in stitches as I wrote them. She’s also fearless and goes after what she wants. I’d love to hang out with her any day! Also, Marco’s brother, Rafael (whose story I’m writing now) is a BAD, BAD boy. I’d wouldn’t mind going out for a drink or three with him.

CABR: Another book to look forward to. 🙂 If you could be someone else for a day, from any time in history, who would you be and why?

MB: Hmmm, that’s a tough one – some many great icons from history! Okay, since I’m a movie buff, I’m going with the iconic movie star, Ava Gardner. I watched and obsessed over her movies in my teens. I only wish I had a single ounce of her cool elegance!

Thank so much for inviting me to your blog, Sasha!

CABR: My pleasure. Feel free to come back anytime Maya 🙂
