Have at it Annie… 😀

************************   Hi everyone. Let me begin with what I’m sure you’re all asking – What is Summer of the Moon Flower about?

Sofia de Vargas’ research into the Alpine Moon flower and its elixir of immortality will threaten the very existence of an ancient Scottish order. Dougal, the Earl of Rothmore must prove his loyalty to his masters, the Knights Templar, and bring her body back to Kilmarnock.
Sofia is kidnapped and imprisoned on the isolated Isle of Rothmore. Is Dougal her sworn enemy…or her saviour?

More than half of the book takes place in Scotland which is one of my favourite places.

I have visited Scotland twice and done two intensive road trips. The first visit was in 1997 with my seventeen-year old daughter and two of her friends in the back seat of small hire car (It was small as we had an accident in the large one we had booked at Marble Arch in London…five minutes after picking it up.

Not at fault and we ended up with a tiny manual car…but we did 4000 kilometres in 4 weeks!) In one of the scariest experiences of my life I lost the three girls at a rock festival in Edinburgh! Now that was a pitfall! One of the joys of that visit was the wonderful Edinburgh police and taxi drivers!!

Not a lot of research was done as we travelled around the countryside and stayed in youth hostels.
This was followed by a second more civilised visit in 2006 with my husband when we toured in a lovely car and stayed in nice hotels!

The joys of both visits?

Seeing the wonderful scenery, visiting Edinburgh castle and the Royal Mile. Discovering a delightful hotel called Balmaha Inn on the shores of Loch Lomond. Climbing a mountain and getting lost! Absorbing the history of little villages and seeing the wonderful scenery. Visiting a sword maker on the Isle of Skye… the Irish wolf hound there was the inspiration for Zeus, the wolfhound in Summer of the Moon Flower. Scotland is truly a magical place.

Annie (Scotland) Seaton picThe pitfalls…

There is only one and the photo of me above says it all. We visited in late spring and for an Aussie girl who lives on the beach in a temperate climate, the weather was …shall we say… different! It helped me describe the cold in several scenes in “Summer of the Moon Flower” from memory!
