Welcome to Caribbean Accent Book Reviews Cindi 😀
Cindi Madsen: Thanks so much! So thrilled to be here!
CABR: Congrats on the release of “Falling For Her Fiance” earlier this month. Tell us about the inspiration for this book.
CM: My editors were talking about their wish list for the Bliss line, something I’d talked with my editor about writing, and she said she loved the friends to lovers storyline.
Her editing assistant said she wanted a fake engagement. That night when I went to go to sleep, suddenly I was thinking about friends who fake an engagement.
I started thinking of how funny it’d be as they lied their way through it, and all the slip ups and forced proximity & faked kissing that had them start wondering how much was fake. I couldn’t fall asleep until I had the whole thing mostly outlined in my head. I knew I had to write it ASAP.
CABR: Don’t you just love when it ‘flows’ like that? 🙂 When done well, the best friends trope is takes the reader on a journey to love like no other. Is this why you chose to make Danielle and Wes best friends?
CM: I love that storyline! I think so many times in life, romance isn’t just about the other person but also the timing.
Dani & Wes have always had this fun, challenge-each-other, joking relationship that they never wanted to mess up & being friends comes naturally.
They’ve been living in different states for a while, though, and part of their scheme is so that they can spend some time together. Only everything starts feeling different between them.
Then you get the push and pull of what they want, versus their fears of losing someone important if it doesn’t work out in the end. I think that’s what makes the best friends trope so popular. It’s a risk either way.
CABR: Did you listen to a particular album or song while writing “Falling For Her Fiance“?
CM: I always make playlists. The theme songs were “Shattered” by O.A.R. & “Running Back to You” by Matt Wertz, that both talk about always coming back to the same person, no matter what. The Fray’s “She Is”, I listened to Kelly Clarkson, for reasons mentioned in the book, and I’d just discovered the Lumineers. The entire playlist for the book is here: http://cindimadsen.com/Music.html

TRIVIA
CABR: I understand you’re a shoe fanatic 🙂 Stilettos or wedge heels?
CM: Stilettos!
CABR: Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts coffee? If you’re a tea person, Lipton or Twinings?
CM: Funny enough, I don’t drink coffee or tea. I drink Mountain Dew. Lots & lots of Mountain Dew.
CABR: Interesting 🙂 ‘Pantser’ or plotter of books?
CM: Panster. I couldn’t sleep until I had the basic outline of this book, but it was more a scene here & there. Then I just start writing & see what happens with that in mind.
CABR: Have you ever freaked out when meeting a favourite author or have you had a fan moment like that?
CM: I totally fan-girl anytime Jeri Smith-Ready & Myra McEntire tweet with me. I’ve met Kelley Armstrong, Beth Kendrick, Maggie Stiefvater (so much fan girling there, especially since I had to have an actual convo with her) Marie Lu, and Gayle Foreman. And honestly, the team of authors at Entangled have become great friends & there will be freaking out & hugging when I meet them in person at RT this year.
CABR: We have got to link up at RT 2013! 🙂 Beach getaway or shopping trip?
CM: Beach getaway. I LOVE the beach. Miss it like crazy. Thanks for stopping by to chat about your book and letting us into your writing world. 🙂 Thanks so much for having me! Great questions!
